When you’re just starting out, you think money is everything. That’s only because at the beginning you don’t have, so your mind has inflated its relevance.

Money is important oh, but not as important as you may have been led to believe.

After you’ve chased money and hopefully had it, other dilemmas reveal themselves like how much money is enough, how much of life and love is worth sacrificing and whether your life truly mattered to those who matter.

If you’re still in lack, it might be hard for you to understand, unless of course you’re determined to.

It’s the reason when a celebrity suffers depression or attempts suicide, the mob says, “What is she depressed for with all that money?”

Or when a person loses in their seat in say, the Nigerian Senate, the mob says, “At least they’ve stored up plenty money”

Or when a football player weeps uncontrollably after losing out on a major career trophy or honour, the mob says, “He’s still rich jare”

You cannot understand that after a person’s basic needs and fantasies have been met, their heart wants more – relevance, happiness, love, health.

To you who pursues money now, please continue but know that one day you’ll want more. At that time, it might be too late to build that capacity for more.

Our people say that a man does not learn to use his left hand in old age. Before it’s too late for you, please add these to your pursuits.

1. Learn to love, not the way your school mates, novels and movies taught you, but the way your creator tries to teach you everyday

2. Learn to transfer your knowledge to other people. It’s one of the biggest catalysts of influence. You don’t know yet, but one day, you’ll want influence and relevance too

3. Learn peace and happiness. It’s a skill and rare art form. There’s a defensive strategy to it where you spot and douse (or evade) carriers of turbulence (in other people and in yourself); and an offensive strategy to it where you spot oases, chase them and become so peaceful, happy and valuable that they chase you too

4. Learn to calculate the future cost of your life choices, not just the ones momentarily placed in front of you

5. Learn decisiveness. Some decisions will make themselves if you’re too afraid to choose.

6. Learn courage. Fortune favours the brave.

7. Learn to make money or you will lose your life in the jungle. There’s nothing pious about poverty.

That’s 7 already, but there’s an 8th culled from Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Wisdom is important… to ensure that while you’re growing older, you’re growing up as well.

Learn to transfer Knowledge – this is so profound.

    To me it isn’t complete…
“Knowledge is power” when you’ve been able to create a medium or means of transferring it either to book writing, seminars etc.
